What is MINDSET?
We believe that San Diego students in STEM have the right to receive the training needed to successfully compete for career opportunities. This training extends beyond the bench, and includes leadership, mentoring, communication, and networking skills. To this end, we have developed a mentoring program, MINDSET, which strives to diversify and prepare future STEM leaders.
As a MINDSET Graduate Fellow, you will:
- Meet once per month with a Miramar College student in STEM as a near-peer mentor
- Learn about STEM career opportunities by attending seminars, Q&A sessions, and lunch with leaders in diverse fields as a part of our Careers in Science Seminar Series
- Receive mentoring from MINDSET faculty and experts in topics including supportive lab environments, overcoming bias, and work-life balance
- Give an invited seminar at Miramar College
Why apply to be a MINDSET Graduate Fellow?
- Hone your mentoring, leadership, and communication skills to benefit you throughout your career
- Boost your professional network by attending a MINDSET members-only lunch with national leaders in Academia, Industry, Consulting, etc.
- Benefit from a Careers in Science Q&A provided by visiting scientists
- Receive mentoring from MINDSET Faculty
- Gain unique professional experiences that will give you a competitive edge on your CV/resume/graduate fellowships
- Make an impact in the lives of early career scientists
- Attend an end of the year party!
We’d like your service for the calendar year. Please email Dr. Christal Sohl with any questions.
